Position Overview:
The Infection Prevention Specialist plays a critical role in safeguarding patient and staff safety by preventing and controlling the spread of infectious diseases within the healthcare setting. This position requires a strong understanding of infection control principles, epidemiology, and regulatory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and Implement Infection Prevention Policies:
- Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for infection prevention and control.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines, including those from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and the Wyoming Department of Health.
- Surveillance and Outbreak Investigation:
- Conduct surveillance for healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and investigate outbreaks promptly.
- Analyze infection data and identify trends.
- Education and Training:
- Provide education and training to healthcare staff on infection prevention and control practices, including hand hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE), and aseptic technique.
- Data Management:
- Collect, analyze, and report infection data to relevant authorities, including the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN).
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of infection prevention activities.
- Quality Improvement:
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to reduce the incidence of HAIs.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement measures to mitigate infection risks.
- Collaboration:
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure adherence to infection control practices.
- Work with facility leadership to address infection prevention concerns and implement necessary changes.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in applied clinical science (Nursing, Medical Technology, Microbiology, Public Health) or related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in infection prevention and control.
- Licensure/Certification:
- Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) preferred.
